Learn the Techniques

You will learn self defence techniques which rely less on strength and more on leverage, method and timing.  You will learn to defend yourself from the most common attacks ranging from having your hair grabbed to being pinned on the ground by an assailant.

improve your fitness

The self defence program is designed to teach women of all ages and athletic abilities to defend themselves.  The classes will be be run in a friendly and safe environment by our team of instructors, our goal is for you to learn the techniques while enjoying the classes and improving your fitness.

build your confidence

We will work with you to develop verbal and non verbal commands that will assist you to manage a confrontational situation.  You will also learn to be confident from a standing position and equally from the ground.

Self defence tailored specifically for women

Our programme starts with a beginners introductory self defence course right up to advanced. You will learn techniques that do not rely on strength . It is possible to overcome a much larger and stronger opponent if the correct techniques are used. In addition to the physical side, which is loads of fun, you will also learn the highly useful theoretical and psychological side of self defence.

Physical Techniques and Training
This is the fun part for most people – it’s time to get physical. You will learn and perfect a range of the most simple and effective techniques during the course. You will AMAZE yourself!

Aggression Control
Diffusing and de-escalating a situation and managing aggression.

Voice Commands
You will learn how to use your voice. REMEMBER it’s what you say and how you say it that can make all the difference.

Once you have graduated from your course, you are able to come and train as a WSD member to any of our club training sessions

Why is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu the most effective form of defence for women


Its the most effective form of martial arts that deals specifically with ground fighting, it teaches endurance and determination, and also not to consider getting knocked to the ground the end of the fight. Knowing how to manouver on your back, understanding the physics to use angles and speed versus brute strength and, most importantly, understanding that you DO have options that can turn the tide in your favor if you are alert and willing to take advantage of any opportunities that present themselves.
